The station opened on December 10, 1875. Also in 1875, the station building was opened and thoroughly rebuilt in 1966. The station building is located on the eastern side of the station level. In 1966, the station was completely rebuilt and significantly enlarged. Inside, waiting rooms, a restaurant, restrooms, three ticket offices, a luggage storage room, and railway service rooms were built. The building’s volume is 11,200 m3. The building is built on an elongated rectangle. It is 81 m long and 16.5 m wide. The adjacent buildings, constructed of half-timbered brick, were demolished. A new building was constructed, housing the railway canteen and a dormitory. A new building was built for the Polish Post Office. Toilets are charged 4 złoty, operated by a coin-operated machine. Currently, the station building houses a health clinic and the PKP Occupational Health Center. There are luggage lockers. MyLocker. The “1 Minute” shop. Currently (2026), the station building houses commercial spaces.

A plaque commemorating the arrival of General Józef Haller is located next to the building. There is a taxi rank and parking. The parking lot has 39 spaces for passenger cars. On the eastern side of the station stands the Polish Post Office building. The building is L-shaped. On the northern side is the railway building, which houses the “Semafor” bar.

In 1966, during the station renovation, the passenger tunnel under the platforms and the platforms themselves, along with their shelters, were renovated. In 2016, the platforms and shelters underwent further renovations. The passenger tunnel was also renovated. New lighting, a railway information system, and street furniture were installed. The square in front of the station was completely rebuilt, and its circulation layout was modified. New lighting was installed.

Platform 1 is located at the station and has a single-edge platform. The platform is 295 m long, and is adjacent to track 1. The platform is covered along the entire length of the station building. Platform 2 is an island platform with two edges: tracks 2 and 6. The platform is 280 m long. The platform has a 115 m long roof. Platform 3 is an island platform with two edges: tracks 8 and 10. The platform is 280 m long. The platform has a 115 m long roof.

To the south of the Polish Post Office building stands a historic water tower. A bus station is located next to the tower. To the north of the station building is a railway repair shop used by SKPL. In the western part of the station, on Księdza Ignacego Skorupki Street, stands a monument of technology: a Ty45-94 steam locomotive. Nearby is (was) the Railway Memorial Room.
