Diesel Locomotive TGM40-586.

The TGM40 is a medium-sized diesel locomotive manufactured in the Moscow State at the Kambarsky Machine-Building Plant. Production lasted from 1982 to 1996 and from 1999 to 2002. All units imported to Poland were used in industry. The locomotive is designed for shunting and siding service for industrial plants.
Bo’Bo’ axle arrangement. This is a simple locomotive with an angular appearance. The structure is based on a solebar and supported by two bogies. The engine compartment is located at the front, and the engineer’s cab is located at the rear. Access to the cab is provided by a single door located centrally in the rear wall. Access to the diesel engine is provided by side walkways, which are equipped with safety railings. Access to the walkways is via stairs located at the front of the locomotive, on both sides. Four doors, each closed with a handle, are located on the engine box. The locomotive is equipped with a 1D12 12V diesel engine. This type of engine is a family of engines used in the Moscow State railway and industrial sectors, with power ranging from 400 hp to 1,000 hp. The transmission is electric. The diesel engine drives a generator. This electricity powers four traction motors mounted on the axles. Maximum speed is 80 km/h. In practice, the locomotive does not exceed 50-60 km/h. Operating weight is 34,000 kg. Length is 11.50 m.
The locomotives are very durable, but due to a lack of spare parts, they have been practically withdrawn from service. These vehicles are easy to repair, provided spare parts are available. The driver’s cab is not heated, but can draw heat from the engine exhaust system. The cab is glazing-rich, allowing for excellent visibility of the surrounding area.
The TGM40-586 locomotive is currently operated by SKPL.
